Why do people complain about Steam rating mechanics compared to original ESO algorithim?

Main differences I see is that you don't lose 40 points for losing to a low level player or gain only 1 point for beating a low rating player, which in my opinion is an improvement and encourage game play. The risk is too large and gain too little for a high level player to bother playing with a low level player, and that's something that occured back in AoE days.

    Other complaints I see:

    1. You gain rating too quick. My response to this is that in the Titans expansion pack you were able to pre-set your rating as 'expert' and immediately start matching up against folks in 1700-1800 rating range.
    2. No rate decay. My response is that rate decay was introduced in the Titan expansion. It's not really a make or break mechanic imo.
    3. Ratings are inflated compared to voobly. My response is that Voobly ratings are deflated. Steam ratings are higher because there's a larger player base. When I played on original ESO folks between 1600 and 1700 rating barely could play the game. My first day playing I hit the 1700s barely knowing the game other than reading strategy guides and may a few recorded games.

    Anything else?
