    So AOM was my favourite game as a teenager, and I just got a new laptop, so naturally buying the Extended Edition was one of the first things I did. Unfortunately, positioning my right-handed self to use the arrow keys and the mouse is quite awkward unless I get REALLY creative with how I position everything.

    I am, full disclosure, more of a casual player and don't generally use more than a handful of hotkeys (I have frankly too much going on to commit those to memory) and find using the mouse to move the camera rather cumbersome. Unfortunately, unlike AOE3, AOM isn't giving me an option to to change the controls very much.

    There are a handful of WASD mods on Steam, but none of them work very well (the W and A keys in particular don't seem to get the memo, especially after I've selected a unit; this goes on even after I thought I disabled the existing hotkey mapping in the Settings menu).

    I've been informed that I can change things in the game files. I'm slightly Windows-illiterate after two decades straight of Mac usage, so I'm a little concerned that I might, um, break everything through my incompetence. If this is the only option, I'll need someone to explain this to me like I'm 5.

    If nothing can be done, I'll grumble and work out an awkward setup. I just want to save myself the effort.

    ANY WAY TO PREVENT OUT OF SYNC ERRORS ?

    as i said i keep getting out of synced by people that are losing in 40 mins + games and it is getting really annoying ... any ways to not let people out of sync ?

    Best god for slinging?

    I want to play 2vs2 with my 3 friends. I want to send most of my resources to my teammate to confuse enemies :D

    Started playing recently with a friend and we always do co-op. Thoughts on best civs to team up? I usually play Oranos while he's one of the Egyptians, looking for any input. Thanks

    [EE] Custom hotkeys

    I've recently started playing again after many years, and found the default hotkeys to be woefully inadequate.

    I attempted to create a set of custom hotkeys using the edit hotkeys function in the settings, but encountered issues with this where some hotkeys would randomly reset to their defaults or conflict with the defaults.

    I then created a custom user.con file in the game's startup directory, first set all the default hotkeys to null, and defined all of my custom hotkeys there.

    This works better, but I still have an issue whereby the default hotkey seems to take precedence in certain situations.

    Here is an example snippet from my user.con:

    // set default hotkey to null: map ("d", "game", "") map ("control-d", "game", "") // set custom hotkeys for find/build TC map ("d", "game", "uiFindType(\"SettlementsThatTrainVillagers\")") map ("control-d", "BuildAccel", "tis(\"Settlement Level 1\")")

    In this instance, I want to use d to find a Town Center. Note that d is build Dock by default (which I have also bound to a different key).

    This works fine for the most part, except if I have a unit selected that can build a Dock. Let's say I have an Ulfsark selected, the hotkey d then does nothing. I have to deselect the Ulfsark first, then press d to find the Town Center.

    I was initially able to workaround this by removing or modifying the game's DefaultKeyMap*.xml files in the data directory. Things work absolutely fine in singleplayer with this setup, but I'm then unable to join online games due to a "version mismatch".

    Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can resolve this issue without modifying the game's files? I am considering simply playing on Voobly but would rather stick with EE as I'm not a hardcore player.

    joutenheim one hole - online

    1.so i got the game on Steam

    1. downloaded the map from https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1258020222&searchtext=one+hole

    BUT I am unable to play it online .... The map is not among the maps I can select when I host a game ...

    So, anyone out there is playing this map online or with friends??? Please let me know how to do it

    Game loses focus and mouse gets way off

    Sometimes when I'm playing, the game will lose focus. When I return to the game, the in-game mouse pointer will not match up with my actual mouse. Does anyone know how to fix this? Game is unplayable when it happens.
